Oats became a staple food at home ..In this busy life especially oats is a great life saver..be it for breakfast or dinner..a simple porridge or a basic upma with aromatic tadka will go fine..you can convert this super grain into any item very easily..biscuits,breakfast bars..sweets,etc..need to try more recipes with it soon..This upma is a very quick version of breakfast for those who hate to eat oats as a porridge and love little spicy food for breakfast..
I added carrots and green peas but you go ahead and add all your favorite veggies of course am not sure about tomatoes though..Instead of pouring more water like we do for regular upma..this needs a but careful addition of water to keep the texture dry..we need to cook under little water and steam like idlies..I used to prepare masala bendi fry with less oil like this only...But those who like to prepare it like a khichidi can add more water and prepare it like regular rava upma.
Now sprinkle some water to make the mixture semi dry and not too wet.Cook until they turn soft by covering with a lid.Keep checking and if it is dry sprinkle some more water.Serve hot with some salad and sprinkle lime juice for a tangy taste.

Takes 20 min;Serves 2
INGREDIENTS:
- Oats - 1 cup
- Onion chopped -1
- Green peas - 3 tbsp
- Carrots sliced or chopped
- Green chilly chopped - 1
- Salt to taste
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tbsp
- Channa dal - 1/2 tbsp
- Cashews - 2 tbsp
- Lemon juice - 1/2 tbsp
METHOD:
Line up all your ingredients s shown below. If you wish you can just dry roast the oats for a minute or two to get rid off the raw smell but its ok for me :) Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard, channa dal. Add in onions and saute for a minute or two.Pop in cashews and fry till onions turns little brown and cashews get golden brown
Add in green peas and carrots and fry till they turn little soft. But I love the my vegetables to be little bit crunchy.Add in oats and mix well such and fry for a minute. Now sprinkle some water to make the mixture semi dry and not too wet.Cook until they turn soft by covering with a lid.Keep checking and if it is dry sprinkle some more water.Serve hot with some salad and sprinkle lime juice for a tangy taste.
