Athidhi Dhevo Bhava! Today’s Chit Chat with Priya Suresh

October 9, 2012 by Siri

Oat and Baadham Halwa…polis inside the post πŸ™‚

Yes you are right..She is that Priya from Priya’s Versatile Recipes ..As the names implies sure priya’s blog is an amazing collection of versatile yummy recipes which are so unique and special..Her blog is my reference for any baking varieties..She is very adventurous in mixing totally different ingredients..Go have a look and you will sure come back to agree with me! Come let have a chat with her..

Siri: When did you start blogging and what made you to start it?

Priya : I started blogging 4 years back. All happened before 4 years ago, actually i was posting my recipes in a site as a guest, one day I received a mail from the author of that site, asking why don’t I start a blog to put together my recipes under a roof, that pulled me to create a blog. This is how I entered this virtual world.

Siri : Tell us about you and how you manage your time to blog?
Priya :Am a mom of three grown up kids, home-maker and a food blogger. Once my kids goes to their school, I have enough time to cook and click. Each day I’ll try to cook something different not only for blogging but also I want to give a try to something new than the routine one.I sit in front of my system at least twice a day, I like bloghopping and this keeps me busy and definitely make me happy as I don’t like to sit idle.
I used to scheduled my posts during my night visit and I do my bloghopping during afternoon since I have loads of free time before everyone come back home. This is how I manage to blog.

Siri : Whats your favourite cuisine?
Priya: Indian obviously even though my most favourite cuisine is Thai.

Siri : Share some tips to reduce the cooking time
P: Most of you know that am living in abroad, we have to manage everything alone we do go everyday to farmer’s market. Usually I used to get veggies in bulk, back home I clean everything and chop or slice them as per need and freeze them for further use,so that I can make easily a curry or a gravy with them.
I also freeze soaked beans in zip lock bags in small quantities for further use, this will be very handy.

I usually make rotis in large quantity, I cook them partially and freeze them so that i can thaw them before an hour to prepare my dinner or lunch.Usually I use pressure cooker for making my dals, they helps a lot for reducing the cooking time.Hope this helps a bit

Siri : What type of camera you use and share some tips on food photography..
P :My camera is sony cybershot and to be honest am yet to learn about food photography and seriously I have to change so many things in clicking my pictures, I don’t have much patience to spend my time in clicks. I like to focus on my foods than the properties, that’s y I rarely use properties in my clicks. One of my future plan is to learn food photography and I’ll be going soon a photography class.

Siri : Share some tips on making the blog  more readable..
P :Good question, I think food click is most important for a blog, some may rock with their way of writing while other with their food click, for me each foodie blogger is good in their own way.

Siri : How is my blog useful and give me one tip on how can I improve the look..
P: To be honest, i dont have nothing to say about your blog Siri, even am still learning then how can i give a tip to you..:).

Siri : Your blog is true a versatile one..i could find almost all type of cookies and believe me I refer your blog for that especially..Do you mind if I give you a small suggestion?
P:Any suggestion is welcome Siri, am happy to get suggestions and love to learn through it. So please dont even hesitate a second to give me a suggestion, it will definitely help me.
Siri: Please do not post such tempting baking goodies..am not able to follow my diet πŸ˜‰

  • Heat one tsp of ghee in a kadai, roast the coarsely powdered oats in simmer for a while.
  • Now heat the milk in a kadai with sugar, bring them boil and stir them continously until sugar gets dissolved.
  • Once the sugar gets dissolved add the roasted oats, yellow food colour, grounded almond paste to the milk, stir it continously..
  • Add ghee little by little to the oats.
  • Once the halwa gets off from the bottom of the kadai, add the cardamom powder, put off the stove…
