Home Made Gulab Jamun | Festive Sweets Recipes

November 4, 2012 by Siri

Home Made Gulab Jamuns
Gulab Jamuns are my  favourite  childhood memories..Mom used to make these and I remember sneaking into the kitchen to have a lick while the jamuns are being soaked in sweet syrup..She used to remind my dad to add gulab jamun powder packets while going for grocery shopping..Today I tried this gulab jamuns starting from the scratch for the SNC challenge…Pallavi from North Team has posed a challenge to the South team to prepare this tasty gulab jamuns..Click here to know more about the SNC challenge and about this month’s challenge posed by North Team..Needless to say am part of South Group..

These jamuns turned out so tasty and soft like I never expected..To say this is the first time I scored hit with Gulab Jamuns..Guess it is the secret of home made method
Serves – 2
Time – under 60 minutes

Ingredients to prepare Home Made Gulab Jamuns:
  • Milk Powder – 1 cup(75 gms)
  • Semolina – 1 1/2 tbsp
  • All purpose Flour – 2 tbsp
  • Baking Powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Ghee – 3 tbsp
  • Milk – 6 tbsp
  • Oil for deep frying
For Sugar Syrup:
  • Sugar – 1 cup(75 gms)
  • Water – 1 1/2 cup
  • Green Cardamom – 3
  • Grated Coconut/Cashews/Pista/Badam – 2 tbsp for garnishing (optional)
Recipe for Gulab Jamun:

Sieve milk powder, semolina, flour and baking powder.

Make a well inside and pour hot ghee.Mix gently with a spatula.

Adjust milk and form into a tight dough consistency,Make sure not to kkned the flour hardly.Keep this aside for 20 min by covering with a kitchen towel.

Take a heavy bottomed pan and start boiling the sugar, water and cardomom together on high flame. After 5 minutes reduce the flame and boil for 10 more minutes to form a slighlty thick syrup.Take the syrup into a serving bowl and keep aside.

divide the dough into equal portions and roll  into small balls.

Heat oil in a kadai and fry the balls until golden brown.Drop the balls into the sugar syrup and rest them for atleast 30 minutes.

Garnish with dry fruits and grated coconut.Enjoy with ice cream or as it is.
Line up your ingredients
Take all flours into a plate
Add ghee
And make dough like this by adjusting milk..Rest it for 30 min
Roll into small balls
And deep fry them

until golden brown
All done done 🙂

Add sugar and cardamom into a pan
And water..
Boil boil..
Till thick syrup is formed
Add the fried balls into a serving bowl
And pour the syrup over the jamuns..soak for 30m atleast
My total family enjoyed these yummy jamuns and finished it in few seconds ..Hope you will also make them at home and let me know how it came..
