Masala Vada Recipe | Lentil Fritters | Am not alone in this World!

February 4, 2014 by Siri

Life is a beautiful mystery which gets unfolded at each and every stage, When we step into this world we are almost alone except that we have the touch of mother which is worthier than anything in this world,As we grew old we realize that there are certain people with whom we can connect with heart and still compete with our family members in terms of sharing love, care and attention whatever element that is required for the proper functioning of heart.I call them as almost my inner souls and are best known as FRIENDS to this

world.the best I could describe them is to say that it is the hardest feeling ever to explain,It is not something which is taught by someone, but to learn on your own,It is actually a science that only heart can decode,Each friend represents a heaven like world in me ,they make my world a better place guide me how to move on in life, inject confidence in me that I can achieve the hardest goals ever,go naughty with me ,get spoiled with me  and ultimately lead me on a shortest path to be happy in Life,Simply they are seen Gods to me who came to this world to only make me happy!

My heartfelt thanks to God who gave me such wonderful people in my life.

Yes am not alone in this world!

β€œGood friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.”
― Mark Twain

{Learn how to make Masala vada-a deep fried lentil fritters made with Bengal Gram}

Deep fried food is always a joy to my eyes despite of its high calories, the moment you gulp is the moment of 1000 pleasures. Todays recipe is a south Indian delicacy Masala Vada which is made of Bengal gram and chick peas. These crispy vadas are very famous in the streets of South India. They are a good pair for evening chai(Indian version of spiced up tea)They are crispy outsode and a bit softy inside with tid bits of lentils, chopped onions and chillies,Ginger gives the fritters a spicy touch that your tongue needs.
————————————————————————————————————

Masala Vada ( Deep fried lentil fritters made with chickpeas/bengal gram and tid bits of onion, chillies, cumin and ginger)
Cuisine : South Indian
Prep Time: soaking for 4 hours and grinding 15 min.
Cooking/Grinding Time: 20 mins
Recipe Level: Beginner/
Practitioner
Spice Level: Medium
Makes: About 10 fritters
Shelf Life: Stay fresh up to 2 days and can be frozen to use for a week.
Serving Suggestion: Best as starters with any Indian chutney or a perfect accompaniment for Tea/coffee
——————————————————————————————–

INGREDIENTS:
  1. Bengal Gram – 1 cup
  2. Onion chopped -1
  3. Green chilies chopped -3
  4. Curry Leaves – 1 spring
  5. Ginger – 1 inch piece
  6. Cumin – 1 tbsp
  7. Coriander leaves – few springs
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Oil for deep frying
METHOD:

  • Soak Bengal gram in water for 4 hours at least until they are soft.
  • Without using much water grind the soaked lentils along with salt ginger and green chillis. The batter should neither be smooth not very course,You should still see some traces of grounded lentils in the batter.
  • Mix chopped onions,cumin,chopped coriander,curry leaves,salt along with the grind-ed batter.
  • The batter should be good enough to form balls and still be firm. Make less than a lemon sized balls out of it and press each ball gently to form nice patties.

Heat oil in a wok and deep fry until golden browm.yummy vadas or fritters are ready to get served with your favorite chutney

SIRI’S NOTES:

  • You could use chick peas as whole instead of Bengal gram.
  • Fritters can be baked in oven instead of deep frying.
  • Reduce the number of green chilies according to your spice levels
