Do you know globally one thirds of food that is produced is lost! I cannot guarantee you on the accuracy of the statistics but I confess that I do waste a little bit of food here and there due to many reasons.I know am too cruel in this regard and always keep thinking about the ways to skip this habit.Whenever I have to bin food I just think about those skinny kids who are unfortunate to have a single meal at least a day somewhere in Somalia, So I made up my mind to stick some notes in the kitchen to remind myself not to waste food.If you wish and think am making any sense you can join me in this journey..Shall we make a difference?
Planning ahead what we need to cook for a week and buy accordingly
Buy foods freshly as much as possible and in smaller amounts.
I tend to postpone cooking vegetables like cauliflower, cabbage and carrots as they appear difficult to cut so I end up wasting them. You can cut them in advance while watching tv or so and store in freezer bags so it would be easy to cook when you decide.
Store the foods and vegetables in proper containers with lids applicable as any water drops can damage their shelf life.
I do often waste milk by not using it with before its expiry date.I found out that I should not buy bread when I buy milk and vice versa as I tend to make bread toasts often instead of porridge.
Leftovers are something from which we can create magics.I dont mind tempering my left over rice from dinner and have it as a breakfast occasionally.Create your own ways according to your taste and cuisine and go creative in using them.

{Learn how to make Oats Chocolate Cookies-A guilt free baking option using just oat flour} |
Did I tell you that am on a drill down for healthy baking? I decided find out and experiment with different substitutes to the regular ingredients to reduce the amount of calorie intake and also I thought I can make these healthy stuff to my kids(in future π ) I made chocolate cookies by using oar flour in place of white flour.Amazingly they have turned out so good and didn’t feel any difference to the regular ones.I used the oat meal powder from ready to make smooth porridge pack by mixing with some coca powder and had these crunchy and melting cookies at the end.I used a little amount of corn flour and white flour just to dust the cookie flour and that’s all! Alternatively you could roast some oats and grind them into fine powder to make oat flour.Lets dig into the recipe..
—————————————————————————————-
Oat Flour Chocolate Cookies(Made with ready to make oats porridge powder and egg-less)
Prep Time: 15 mins
Baking Time: 30 mins
Recipe Level: Medium
Makes: About 15 cookies
Shelf Life: Up to a week days when stored in air tight container
Serving Suggestion: Ideal for breakfast and with tea and as a snack
—————————————————————————————-
INGREDIENTS:
- Oat Flour or powdered oats – 1 cup
- White flour – 1 tbsp
- Corn flour – 3 tbsp
- Unsweetened Coco powder – 3 tbsp
- Powdered sugar – 1/ cup
- Butter – 1/4 cup
- Milk – tbsp
- Salt a pinch
- Baking powder – a pinch
METHOD:
Take butter at room temperature and combine with sugar.Beat it until the butter and sugar mixture turns out fluffy and creamy.
Add oat flour ,coco powder and mix well with a spoon or fork. Add little milk and mix well.
By using the corn flour and white flour knead into a smooth dough .The consistency of the dough should be like tortilla/chapati dough. Take the dough onto a parchment paper.Roll it flat using a rolling pan.Using your favorite cookie cutter mark the cookies and place them on a lined baking tray.
Ready to go into the oven:) Pre-heat the oven for 10 min and Bake them for 20-30 min at 150 degrees.Allow them to cool down and enjoy!
SIRI’S NOTES:
- You could skip the entire white flour and use only corn flour for dusting and binding the flour.
- Use brown sugar instead of white one.
- Also use 1/3 cup of vegetable oil or olive oil instead of butter in that case just skip the beating part and just mix the ingredients together.
